ATLANTA MOTOR SPEEDWAY TO HOST 2015 NASCAR SEASON'S FIRST SPRINT CUP SERIES OPEN TEAM TEST FEB. 26
HAMPTON, Ga. (Dec. 18, 2014) – An open team test for NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015 will kick off four consecutive days of on-track NASCAR action at Atlanta Motor Speedway leading into the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 weekend.
The open team test, the first of 13 on NASCAR's 2015 testing schedule, will take place from   1-5:30 p.m., with a 30-minute break from 3-3:30 p.m. and will be open to the public. General admission will be free for those who have purchased a ticket to the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 Sprint Cup Series race on Sunday, March 1 and $10 for anyone without a ticket to Sunday’s race. Tickets to Sunday’s race must be presented for free admission to the test session.
The open team test will be open to all teams entered to race in Sunday’s NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series race. NASCAR eliminated private team testing at the end of the 2014 season in an announcement earlier this year.

After achieving significant construction milestones related to the $400 million DAYTONA Rising project during the past year, Daytona International Speedway (DIS) is now preparing for the 53rd Anniversary of the Rolex 24 At Daytona and Budweiser Speedweeks 2015. 
“We had another great year and hit several major milestones along the way,” Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III said. “We’re now beginning to prepare the facility for the 2015 racing season to ensure that our fans enjoy some of its new amenities.”
Fans can get an early preview of DAYTONA Rising during Budweiser Speedweeks 2015 (the stadium will officially open in 2016). Approximately 40,000 new seats will be available along with two of the five injectors/entrances, new concessions, several of the neighborhoods or social areas and the new vertical transportation.

About DAYTONA Rising
DAYTONA Rising is a $400 million reimagining of an American icon – Daytona International Speedway. Five expanded and redesigned entrances, or “injectors,” will lead fans to a series of escalators and elevators, transporting them to three different concourse levels. Barton Malow is serving as the design-builder for the project. In addition to DAYTONA Rising, Barton Malow has renovated the University of Michigan “Big House” and the Rose Bowl.

  • Groundbreaking for Homestead-Miami Dade Motorsports Complex – as the track was originally named – began Aug. 24, 1993.
  • The first race held at Homestead-Miami Speedway was a NASCAR Nationwide Series event on Nov. 5, 1995 – won by NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Jarrett.
  • The original configuration was a four-turn, rectangular oval based on Indianapolis Motor Speedway's layout.
  • The first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Homestead was held on Nov. 14, 1999 – won by Tony Stewart.

SOLD OUT FOR FORD ECOBOOST 400 AT HOMESTEAD

FORD ECOBOOST 400 AT HOMESTEAD-MIAMI SPEEDWAY SUNDAY


MIAMI – As the championship race for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series inches closer, the excitement continues to escalate.  Homestead-Miami Speedway President Matthew Becherer announced today that the grandstands are sold out for the Ford EcoBoost 400 on Sunday, November 16 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.  In addition, premium seating areas in Champions Club, Speedway Club and the Pit Box are sold out as well.  The Championship Round Ford EcoBoost 400 will air live from Homestead-Miami Speedway at 3 p.m. ET on ESPN. 

“The response this year among our fans has been tremendous, both to the new Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup format as well as the opportunity to come to Miami and witness history,” Becherer said.  “The fans who will be here at our track not only will be treated to a terrific weekend of racing, but also an unforgettable overall experience with all of the entertainment and amenities that we have planned.  For those who want to see some great racing, we encourage people to come out to the Camping World Truck Series race (Ford EcoBoost 200) on Friday night and the Nationwide race (Ford EcoBoost 300) on Saturday.  Many of the drivers who will be competing in the Sprint Cup race on Sunday also will be taking part in the first two races over the weekend.”

Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick, Joey Logano and Ryan Newman each will have a chance to claim the 2014 Sprint Cup Series championship at the Ford EcoBoost 400 as they will compete amongst a full field of 43 cars.  Whichever driver among the Championship 4 finishes the highest on Sunday will be crowned the champion.  

Although the Ford EcoBoost 400 is now sold out, fans of some of the most popular drivers on the Sprint Cup Series circuit will have a chance to see those same drivers earlier in the weekend.  Kyle Busch, Matt Kenseth, Brad Keselowski and Kyle Larson are scheduled to take part in the Ford EcoBoost 300 on Saturday while Busch and Larson will compete in the Ford EcoBoost 200 on Friday.  Fans will also have the opportunity see one of the top young drivers on the NASCAR circuit in the Ford EcoBoost 300 as Chase Elliott takes the wheel for the first time since clinching the Nationwide Series Championship following the race in Phoenix last weekend.  At 18 years of age, Elliott is the youngest champion ever in any NASCAR series.

Phoenix International Raceway: History

History
  • Construction was completed in January 1964. The facility consisted of a one-mile oval and a 2.5-mile road course.
  • Alan Kulwicki won the first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Phoenix on Nov. 6, 1988.
  • The first spring race was held on April 23, 2005 and also the first night race, which was won by Kurt Busch.
  • The track underwent its first repave in 2011. The construction began in March and concluded in September of that year.
  • The following changes were made during the construction period (March – Sept., 2011):
  • Widened the frontstretch from 52 to 62 feet
  • Reconfigured pit road with the installation of concrete pit stalls
  • Pushed the dog-leg curve between Turn 2 and Turn 3 out 95 feet
  • Tightened the turn radius of the dog-leg from 800 to 500 feet
  • Implemented variable banking to ensure the immediate use of two racing grooves, including 10-11 degree banking between Turn 1 and Turn 2; 10-11 degree banking in the apex of the dog-leg; and 8-9 degree banking in Turn 4

Daytona International Speedway Names Florida Hospital as a Founding Partner Of Historic DAYTONA Rising Project

Two iconic Central Florida organizations, Daytona International Speedway and Florida Hospital, announced today a multi-year partnership that will make Florida Hospital the second Founding Partner at Daytona International Speedway, as part of its historic $400 million DAYTONA Rising redevelopment project. Providing high-quality medical services and new fan experiences at the “World Center of Racing,” Florida Hospital will inspire the community to race toward better health.

Beginning in January 2015, Florida Hospital Volusia/Flagler will be the exclusive healthcare provider of Daytona International Speedway, which includes providing medical equipment and personnel for all events, managing the care center operations and providing ambulances to handle emergency situations.  
Arriving in a Toyota Camry pace car, Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III and Florida Hospital Volusia/Flagler CEO Daryl Tol shared the unprecedented announcement on the West end of Daytona International Speedway’s frontstretch. 
The massive DAYTONA Rising project, encompassing the Speedway’s nearly one-mile long frontstretch, will be complete by January 2016. The project will transform the Speedway into the world’s first motorsports stadium with premium amenities and attractions unmatched in the industry.  
The Florida Hospital brand will be represented on one of five special entrances called fan injectors, including more than 20,000 square feet of engagement space. Within this injector, Florida Hospital will have a presence in one of the “neighborhoods” which will encompass retail and dining areas, as well as dozens of video screens to provide fans with non-stop views of on-track action.

Groundbreaking for
North East Motor Sports Museum to Begin in Spring of 2015

LOUDON, N.H. – The south entrance of New Hampshire Motor Speedway will begin to take on a new look once the snow melts. Speedway officials announced today plans to break ground there for the future home of the 20,000 square foot state-of-the-art North East Motor Sports Museum.
The museum will be built in two phases. The first 10,000 square feet will begin in the spring of 2015, while an additional 10,000 square feet will be added at a later date.
"I can't think of a better way to kick off our 25th anniversary celebration at New Hampshire Motor Speedway than with a groundbreaking for the North East Motor Sports Museum," said Jerry Gappens, vice president and general manager of the speedway. "I feel our facility is the anchor for multi-forms of motorsports and its history here in New England. I couldn't envision the museum in any other location. I can't wait for opening day and to share motorsports history with the race fans of New England."
New Hampshire Motor Speedway will be celebrating a quarter century of racing in 2015. Tracing its roots back to the original 1/5-mile dirt oval at Bryar Motorsports Park, the more modernized 1.058-mile oval and 1.6-mile road course of today gives the affectionately known Magic Mile its own rich history of racing that makes it the perfect locale for such a project.
The speedway currently hosts everything from NASCAR's three major touring series to regional series like the American-Canadian Tour, K&N Pro Series East, and Whelen Modified Tour to local racing series like the Granite State Legends Cars, Bandoleros, and Loudon Road Race Series (motorcycles). IndyCar and the Global RallyCross Championship have also held events at the speedway over the years, as well as various car clubs, racing schools, and driving experiences.
"The goal of the museum is top cover all aspects of motorsports from this area, not just NASCAR or drag racing but any and all racing that has taken place here in New England," said Dick Berggren, president of the NEMSM. "Much of the racing history for the Northeast has been lost over time and we want to make sure that what we can find of the sport's history is preserved for generations to come."
The RHPG, the parent corporation for the NEMSM, is made up of local prominent motorsports personalities, including Berggren, Ricky Craven, Lew Boyd, Joe Freeman, Ken Smith, Russ Conway and Ric Mariscal to name a few.
The NEMSM will be used to house the history of motorsports from the Northeast area with a plethora of displays, vehicles and racing-related artifacts.

MIAMI – Six NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams and more than 15 of the top NASCAR Sprint Cup Series cars are slated to test at Homestead-Miami Speedway tomorrow, Oct. 28, with an optional testing day on Wednesday Oct. 29. Testing will run from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. All drivers, days and times are subject to change.

Seven of the eight drivers in the Eliminator Round of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup are set to test their cars at Homestead-Miami Speedway in preparation of competing at the Ford EcoBoost 400, where the Championship 4 drivers will compete for the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Championship.

Testing will be open to the public from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the infield Pit Road Cabanas. Fans may enter and park in the parking lot on SW 336th Street and 137th Ave and take a tram to the infield to watch testing. Allison, Unser, Rutherford & more to help celebrate track’s 50th anniversary


PHOENIX – A number of the greatest drivers to ever turn a lap on the oval at Phoenix International Raceway will return to the Valley of the Sun to help celebrate the culmination of the track’s 50th anniversary season, PIR President Bryan R. Sperber announced today.

Racing legends Bobby Allison, Bobby Unser and Johnny Rutherford will all take part in festivities throughout The Quicken Loans Race for Heroes 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race weekend. Each of the drivers will make appearances during the race weekend, many of which will take place inside the one-of-a-kind ‘Memory Lane’ exhibit.

‘Memory Lane’ will feature cars driven by many of the legendary drivers, including the 1964 roadster that A.J. Foyt drove to Victory Lane in the first professional race in PIR’s history and the No. 7 Ford Thunderbird driven by Alan Kulwicki to the first ever NASCAR Winston Cup Series win at PIR in 1988. The exhibit will also feature trophies, fire suits and other memorabilia from the track’s 50-year history.

Allison is a three-time Daytona 500 champion and captured the 1983 Winston Cup Series championship.  He raced in seven of the first eight NASCAR-sanctioned races in Phoenix from 1977-82 and 1984. In those seven races, he only finished outside the top five once and he captured the checkered flag in 1982.

Unser is a three-time Indianapolis 500 champion and a seven-time winner at PIR in USAC Champ Cars.  Between 1964 and 1978, he raced at PIR 27 times and visited Victory Lane four times.  He started from the pole a whopping seven times, including three consecutive races in 1971 and ’72. Two of his wins came from the pole – in 1968 and again in 1972.

Rutherford is a three-time Indianapolis 500 champion.  In addition to his three victories at Indy, he also started from the pole three times. From 1963 to 1988, he had four top-5s, eight top-10s and 24 starts at the famed “Brickyard.” Rutherford raced at Phoenix International Raceway 24 times and was a three-time winner, taking the checkers in 1975, ’77 and ‘78. He also competed in the inaugural NASCAR Winston Cup Series race at PIR, finishing 39th.

Dover International Speedway to install new catch fence for 2015 season

Dover International Speedway to install new catch fence for 2015 season

DOVER, Del. – Dover International Speedway officials announced today that the track will install a new catch fence that will be in place for the May 29-31, 2015 NASCAR race weekend. The process of removing the current fence began on Monday, Sept. 29, one day after the “AAA 400” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at the Monster Mile, is scheduled for completion by Jan. 1, 2015.

The new fence will be installed by Smith Fence, a Florida-based contractor that has performed similar installations at other facilities on the NASCAR circuit. The project will incorporate the most up-to-date technologies and stand at 21-feet tall, up from its current 15-feet.

“Because the track is known as a self-clearing racetrack, with steep banking, we are fortunate to have never had a NASCAR vehicle become airborne and hit the catch fence,” said Michael Tatoian, executive vice president and COO of Dover Motorsports, Inc. “With that in mind, our current fence served us well.

“But as with anything at our facility, we’ve been looking for some time to update and improve it. With all of the new technologies and safety advances made in safety fencing, we wanted to do this right.”

Other improvements at the Speedway in recent years include the installation of SAFER barriers, the widening and lengthening of pit road, new fan care medical facilities and many fan experience improvements.

Throughout the summer months, work was completed on drilling for the support structures that will hold the fence. Beginning this week after the completion of the track’s 2014 season, demolition of the old fence began, with construction of the new fence occurring simultaneously.
